Fraud Awareness Week

AmDisRights is proud to participate in Fraud Awareness Week (Nov 16–22, 2025), a time to help nonprofits and donors strengthen defenses against fraud. During the holiday season, generosity is at its peak, and viral social media campaigns often inspire donations. While these campaigns can be compelling, it’s important not to rely exclusively on a single post or trending story when giving. Fraudsters sometimes exploit the holiday spirit by creating fake campaigns or impersonating legitimate organizations.
Before donating, donors should ask organizers key questions: What is your nonprofit’s mission? How are donations used? Can you provide financial reports or transparency documents? Legitimate nonprofits welcome these questions and provide clear, verifiable answers. Additionally, always verify nonprofit status using tools like the IRS Tax Exempt Organization Search or state charity registries to confirm 501(c)(3) status. This ensures donations go to real organizations that use funds responsibly.
Fraud Awareness Week offers nonprofits and donors access to workshops, webinars, and resources covering practical strategies to detect, prevent, and respond to fraud. Topics include safeguarding funds, understanding common fraud schemes, and implementing strong internal controls. Nonprofit leaders and staff can also network, share experiences, and learn from case studies of successful prevention strategies.
By participating in this week and applying due diligence during holiday giving, donors help ensure their generosity has maximum impact. Even small contributions can make a difference when directed to verified organizations. Combining awareness, verification, and thoughtful giving allows both nonprofits and their supporters to reduce risk, protect resources, and focus on their mission. Remember: a viral post is never a substitute for careful research and responsible giving.
