National Guide Dog Month

September 1, 2023

National Guide Dog Month is an annual observance held every September to celebrate and honor the vital roles that guide dogs play in providing mobility, independence, and companionship to people who are blind or visually impaired.

Originating in 2008, Guide Dog Month aims to raise awareness of guide dog schools and programs that expertly train these service animals to serve their handlers and communities. Throughout the month, Guide Dog Month promotes advocating for the rights of guide dogs to have full public access and inclusion. It is also an opportunity to highlight the diligent work and training of guide dog instructors who dedicate themselves to properly preparing guide dogs for their duties.

Overall, National Guide Dog Month pays tribute to the life-changing partnerships guide dogs have with their handlers and how these incredible animals bring freedom and joy.
